Brandon Routh Dishes on Darker Superman

Recent movie rumors focus on the next installment of the Superman franchise.

When will a sequel to Superman Returns hit theaters? Will the tone be darker?

In a new interview, actor Brandon Routh responds to a couple of these questions.

On time line for sequel: No, I don't have a time frame. I haven't really heard the studio's stance, I've just heard what's in the media and that every time I see somebody from Warner Bros. they tell me that they are working on it and are going to figure it out soon. But that's about the answer I get.

On a darker tone for Superman: I don't think the character necessarily has to be darker, I think he is kind of dark in a sense, emotional dark, in Superman Returns, and the movie as a whole was slightly dark, they could have had more prowess in it I suppose, and I think that's one thing that can be done in the sequel, so I don't know how much darker you want to make it necessarily. You make the stakes higher, you make the villain darker, I think that's a way to do it. But I don't think Superman himself needs to be darker.

He definitely has to struggle, how does Superman be a part of the world? And does he have to make sacrifices to be a part of that world? To fit in and what purpose does he really play in the world? Those are all kind of dark places to explore. But, I don't think Superman should ever be dark and brooding, that's not is nature. And that's now what people what to see.

Director of Role Models Speaks on Comedy

Director David Wain recently sat down with ComingSoon.net to talk about the new comedy, Role Models. Here are excerpts from the interview:

This movie didn't originate with you originally, so how did it come about that you ended up co-writing and directing it?
The script had been through a million different iterations at different studios, and at a certain point, Paul Rudd had some very specific ideas about what he'd like to do with the script so they let him take a draft of it, and it came out really well. At that point, they needed a director and Paul introduced me to the studio and I met them and pitched my take on it. They wanted to shoot pretty soon after that, so Paul, Ken Marino and I sat down and really stripped it back to square one and rewrote the script from scratch, and then we shot it.

You've worked with Paul Rudd a long time. Has he always been writing and not taking credit for it?
Well, you know, exactly. I think he's done a lot of writing and he's always very creatively involved in everything he does, and he also wrote a pilot that I think is going this year on some network. This was his first movie credit as officially being a writer, and you'd never know it. He's definitely one of the smartest, most creative guys around, and so it wasn't a surprise to me that he took to screenwriting pretty naturally.

Olga Kurylenko Dishes on Bond Girl Status

Olga Kurylenko portrays a unique type of Bond Girl in Quantum of Solace: the type that actually does not sleep with 007.

In a new interview with MoviesOnline, the actress talks about other aspects of playing Camille:

You are the first Bond Girl who doesn't hook up with Bond and she mirrors his desire for revenge. Did you think that was really cool when you read it?
Sure. I was very happy. Yeah, I'm very happy and proud that she didn't sleep with Bond. It's okay. He slept with all of them in twenty-one movies, you know? Here is a change. But he was behaving well, so we gave him a kiss (big smile and laughs).

There were some amazing fight scenes and then the fire scenes, what did you expect and what was it really like?
I didn't realize, because even though you read the script, you never know exactly how (it will work). I had never taken part in any action scenes. It was the first time so, amazingly, I didn't even have time to imagine because from the moment I found out that I got the part, there was, I think, less than a week that my agent said “Pack your bags. You're leaving.” So, I went to London, arrived there and met right away with the stunt coordinator and he told me “Look, we're going to train you really hard.”

That's how it started and I said “Yeah, sure. No problem” (laughs) and then we started training and I was like “Why didn't you tell me you were going to train me really hard?” I thought, “Are you sure? We're still training? How many hours? Four?” I had four hours per day for a month, just that because I wasn't shooting. They brought me there a month before just so I'd get in shape and know how to do and what to do.

Reel Movie Reviews: Quantum of Solace

Through the years, James Bond has become almost as well known for his quips and sarcastic one-liners as for his sex appeal and affinity for action.

In Quantum of Solace, however, fans should be in for a darker 007, one so focused on revenge that he leaves humor at home. Fortunately, he doesn't forget his Aston Martin and the movie doesn't forget that Bond followers crave action.

They receive plenty of it in the franchise's 22nd edition. Read out complete Quantum of Solace review now.

Bond. James Bond.
