Matthew McConaughey Offered Magnum P.I. Movie Role

We're trying not to get too excited about this yet, but Entertainment Weekly has learned that Matthew McConaughey has been offered the role of Thomas Magnum in Universal Pictures' adaptation of Magnum P.I.

The movie, of course, would be based on the 1980s TV show that starred Tom Selleck. For those too young to remember, the character is a former Navy Seal turned reluctant detective. Certainly seems a perfect match for the laid-back actor.

Matthew McConaughey Shirtless

McConaughey, reportedly, is reading the script from writer/director Rawson Thurber (Dodgeball) and will decide shortly.

Would you pay to see him in the role of Magnum P.I.?

Jodie Foster is on Nim's Island

Alexandra Rover Nim's Island marks a different sort of role for Jodie Foster. The actress gets to show off her comedic and adventurous side on film for a change.

Below, she talks to ComingSoon.net about the movie...

ComingSoon.net: Can you talk about what drew you to this project?
Jodie Foster: I've been wanting to do a comedy for a long time actually. "Maverick" was such a great experience. I really, really enjoyed it. Lightness is a part of your life too. You're not all just darkness. There's lightness too. But then I couldn't find anything that was good enough.

I read this script and kept banging down doors and lobbying for it and definitely the first studio they were at, they had a different arrangement with the studio at that time and they were not keen on me at all, understandably. They know me for my dark dramas.

CS: Did you feel silly at all while you were doing some of the stuff in this movie?
Foster: Yeah, but I think that silly is good. You're looking for that. What's interesting to me in this movie is that I find myself talking about things like fear and this sort of solitary world that she's created, finding a hero in yourself. Those are all themes that I've played in dramas many, many times " very dark dramas.

Here I am doing a comedy about them, which is kind of like making fun of your most precious thing. You're making fun of the parts of yourself that are the little fragile parts of you. You have to have an ability in order to be a comedy actor.

Brittany Snow Shares Prom Night Experiences

Brittany SnowWe all hated the prom, right? Expectations simply can never be met on what is billed as the most important event of your young life.

In the new horror film Prom Night, though, this is especially true. Star Brittany Snow recently talked about the flick with MoviesOnline.ca...

MoviesOnline: You've transitioned from soap operas to movies and now a horror film, is there a genre of this medium you'd like to pursue or get more into?
Brittany Snow: Yeah. I think it really depends. I think it's just about the project. I'm not partial to film or television, it's more about the characters you play and who you work with. I look for a challenge and the opportunity to work with great directors or producers.

So if that is it in television then I would take that route. Right now I am pursuing film because the characters available in my age range have a lot more going for them. I would never say never to anything.

MoviesOnline: We noticed that three of your recent roles deal with racial issues. Do you think it's important for you to take on those subversive roles? Are you saying something to the audience?
Brittany Snow: I think that people are smart enough to realize that when I'm playing a character it doesn't reflect my personal beliefs. I play a Nazi on Nip/Tuck, and obviously I don't believe in that. I look for roles that challenge me and make me explore the psychology of another person and what they believe. It's up to people to decide what they believe in. I like playing different characters with different beliefs, and who have different ideals and understandings of things.

MoviesOnline: Are you a fan of horror? and why did you choose Prom Night?
Brittany Snow: I am a fan of horror films. It's funny because I was very hesitant to do this as I wanted it to be a good choice for my career. I'm very picky about what I do. I was happy it wasn't a remake, because there's a lot of that lately. I also loved the director Nelson McCormick.

This was also the first project where I had a big part of creating the movie overall, I got to help create the script and got to share my ideas on clothes and music, and that was a really cool thing to be a part of. The script turned out to be something good for my age range. And it's not a gory movie; it's more about the psychological side of horror.

The Ruins Photos, Quotes Added to Site

The Ruins was a best-selling book by Scott Smith. Now, it's a horror movie coming out this Friday.

Here's a look at a few photos from the film, which looks to be a smarter thriller than most cliched scary films out there:

George Clooney Speaks on Leatherheads

George Clooney is more than a handsome face. He's both a director and an actor.

The charitable hunk put both skills to the test for the upcoming movie Leatherheads. And he recently spoke to MovieWeb about the project:

How does George Clooney the director work with George Clooney the A list actor?
George Clooney: It's funny. With the three films I've directed, the other two I only had bit parts in them. I wasn't the lead. It becomes tricky, because there is an enormous amount of narcissism that comes into play. You are breaking the trust between two actors when you are in the lead. If you and I are doing a scene together and we're talking, I'm not supposed to be judging you as an actor.

Some actors do that, and they'll tell you what to do. In general you're not supposed to break that trust. The director is. If we are doing a scene and we finish, then I go, "Okay, cut. Now try it like this." It really requires an amount of trust. You have to go to each of the actors before you start and say, "Listen, this is going to be awkward." You just get it out in the open and lay it out early. You say, "It's gonna be strange all the way around."

Directing Leatherheads

As an actor, it's easy because I know precisely what I need to do in that scene. I've cut out that step where the director has to explain it.

Why did you choose to take the starring role in your own film this time out?

George Clooney: The truth is, I did it because I wanted to play this part for a long, long time. I always thought I was the right guy to play it. I also thought, "I'm 46. If I don't do it now, I'm done. This is it. This is my last shot at it." Soderbergh was going to direct it in 1998, when we were going to do it and I was very excited about that sort of prospect. Things kind of moved on. The script wasn't in shape.

We had an outline. We had two or three scenes that we loved and characters that we loved, but we didn't have a plot. Some years passed. I thought, "I want to do something that is completely away from what I have been doing." I like screwing with different genres. This was a world I knew a little bit about. The style of film I knew. So, I spent a summer stealing from Philadelphia Story, homaging the hell out of those types of films.

And Hail the Conquering Hero sort of helped too. I was stuck in this world where I was going to direct it, and I was going to play the lead. What I hadn't really paid attention to was that I was also going to be playing football. And it hurt. The first day I got hit by some 21-year-old that knocked me on my ass. I was like, "Okay, I'm in trouble because I've got four more months of this."

I would never, by design, do a film that I would play the lead in ever again. It was really one of those things where all of it came together very quickly. It was a dumb move in some ways because it was a little too much to take on.

Leatherheads opens on April 4.

AJ Michalka: The Lovely Bones is Heavenly

AJ MichalkaAJ Michalka, who appears in the Peter Jackson remake of The Lovely Bones, says viewers ought to brace themselves for a beautiful slice of heaven.

"I think it's going to be stunning," Michalka said of Jackson's vision for heaven, a major set-piece in a film whose narrator resides there. "There's going to be this beautiful gazebo involved, I know that. He's doing a lot of stuff with blue screen, which if going to be insane, unbelievable. It's going to be her own little world in heaven."

And the character occupying it will be Susie Salmon (portrayed by Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan), a 14-year-old who watches her family and friends from the afterlife, observing them as they struggle to cope with her brutal rape and murder.

AJ plays Clarissa in the film, Susie's best friend. She had nothing but praise for another costar, too: Mark Whalberg.

"He's incredible," Michalka said."We all did our own and after every take he was like, ‘Are you okay? Are you okay?' He was super cool, super nice. It was great."
