Stephenie Meyer Talks Twilight

Stephenie Meyer

Entertainment Weekly recently caught up with author Stephenie Meyer and asked her about the big screen adaption of Twilight.

Here's a bit of what she had to say:

Why did you demand that Edward and Bella's big kissing scene be toned down?
The problem is if you're going to continue with the other movies, there's a very gradual build to their physical relationship. And what Edward is capable of when he first meets Bella changes very much by the time he's become more committed to the relationship. They reshot the first kiss scene and actually added a special effect and some really cool things that added so much. And it's the only kiss scene.

You also asked for some minor script changes and insisted on Kellan Lutz's casting as Emmett. Did you always feel comfortable putting your foot down?
My personality is such that I have a really hard time being critical with other people. I can be critical of myself all day long. But I hate to step in and say, ''I really wish this was different.'' But it's been good for me just in general to have to speak up because I am so invested in this. I've forced myself, like with the Emmett situation, to take a step forward and say, ''I don't like this.'' And that's hard for me, but I'm glad of every time I did it and I don't think I stepped on too many toes and everyone seems to still like me.

Avatar to Be Released in 3D

Movie fans have over a year to wait until James Cameron releases Avatar.

But when the sci-fi adventure comes out on December 18, 2009, it will open in IMAX3D and conventional 3D theaters.

"Our goal with Avatar is to revolutionize live-action 3D moviemaking, and I have no doubt that it will look and sound incredible in IMAX 3D," said Cameron. "The larger field of view and powerful surround sound of an IMAX® theatre will completely immerse the audience in a way that cannot be experienced anywhere else."

"We are delighted to be releasing Avatar in all available theatrical formats, and by including the premium IMAX 3D format, we can give consumers the entire spectrum of choice at the box office," added Bruce Snyder, President, Domestic Distribution, Twentieth Century Fox.

"The IMAX theatre network is increasingly becoming an important part of our distribution strategy, as it continues to expand with its new digital projection system."

Robert Pattinson Attends Twilight Q&A

Robert Pattinson and Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke attended a fan question and answer event at the Soho Apple store Monday night. The duo talked about the upcoming vampire movie, based on the best-selling book by Stephenie Meyer.

"We auditioned every gorgeous guy that acts on the planet," Hardwicke said. "(Pattinson) came over to meet with Kristen (Stewart, who plays Edward's human love Bella) and I. They auditioned and they did some scenes on my bed. These two had the chemistry."

Twilight Star

Most fans in attendance - especially those of the female persuasion - had plenty of questions for the actor. Is he anything like Edward Cullen?

"I have an incredible six-pack. I'm joking," he joked. "I can run really fast. I'm good at climbing trees. I always get carried away when I'm kissing people. I just go nuts."

As for why Pattinson signed up for Twilight? The reasons weren't complicated.

"I liked Catherine. I like the story. Done."

Paul Rudd Talks Role Models

Paul Rudd doesn't simply star in the new comedy Role Models. He also receives his first writing credit for the movie.

The actor talked about the experience in a recent interview:

How did you become involved in the writing of Role Models?
It was unintentional. I was never supposed to be, I guess. I read the script, but it was kind of evolving. The idea was there of a couple of guys that get in trouble and have to go into this mentoring program. I thought that was a very funny idea, and there was comedy. [Adopts soft, sarcastic voice.] And lessons to be learned. And tears to be shed.

The portrayal of medieval role-playing in the movie is satirical, yet strangely respectful.
Very much so, that was a big concern for all of us. 'Cause we don't wanna make fun of this, we want to hopefully show what's awesome about it, which is that a kid who maybe feels a little alienated can find something accepting and fun and freeing in all of it. If it's mean-spirited, it wouldn't work. 'Cause it's such an easy target anyway.

If you can somehow capture the joy in it—it's certainly a switch for my character, who has no joy in anything, and has really hit a point in his life where mildly annoying things cause him to flip out, 'cause he has no sense of humor about anything anymore. If he can kind of re-discover—this sounds so Dr. Phil-y, ugh. I'm puking in my mouth just a little bit just hearing it. Did you see me spit, by the way? That wasn't even spit. That was drool. It made me actually kind of puke a little. Wow.

Lake Bell: Excited to be Part of A Good Old Fashioned Orgy

Lake Bell stars in the upcoming A Good Old Fashioned Orgy. Seriously. That's the name of the movie.

“It’s like The Big Chill, but with an orgy at the end,” Bell told MTV News about the film. “Or is there? They invite you over for it, but whether it happens, that’s a whole ‘nother can of worms.”

Bell’s character is a pretentious psychiatrist from the Upper West Side. For some reason, she's against the orgy taking place.

“My character has her own issues,” the actress said. “She sort of wants to dismiss the fact that she grew up on the Upper West Side and she wears bangles from Marrakesh to kind of prove her earthiness.’ But she’s actually not for the orgy. She thinks it would be bad, given that we’re all best friends.”
