Director Dishes on Deception

Marcel Langenegger is behind the camera for Deception, a sex thriller starring Hugh Jackman and Ewan McGregor and opening this weekend.

He recently spoke to MovieWeb about the project. Here are a few highlights from the interview:

Q: How accurately does the title Deception depict what is going on in this movie? Or does the title describe the film's relationship with the audience?

Marcel Langenegger: It is both. The whole thing is a con film, especially in the set up. So nothing is as it seems. It actually happens in both directions. As you know, Hugh Jackman plays the bad guy and Ewan McGregor plays the good guy. At one point the role switches. It is a very balanced back and forth.

Q: And at the same time, you are deceiving the audience as well?

Marcel Langenegger: Yes. A little bit. There comes a point in the movie where things don't make any sense. You don't know who actually exists, or if this is a fantasy. There is always the possibility that the things you see happening on screen could be a dream. But they are probably real. You, as an audience member, may start asking yourself those questions. At one point, the logic is completely lost. But at the end, it all starts to make sense again. This is how it goes.

Watch Daniel Craig in Action!

This isn't exactly the most exciting behind the scenes clip you'll ever see of Quantum of Solace. But it is one of the first.

Check out Daniel Craig being filmed for a chase scene in the next James Bond movie:

An Enchanted Sequel: On the Way

Following talk - already - of a Speed Racer sequel, we're hearing reports that one of 2007's biggest movies may return for a follow-up.

Kevin Lima, the man behind the Enchanted, has reportedly already spoken to Disney a sequel.

Robert Philip

As MovieHole reports, it's not yet known whether the follow-up will reunite Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey â€" though, if the price is right, it probably will â€" or focus on a new cast of characters.

So... would you go see an Enchanted sequel?

Forgetting Sarah Marshall Team Goes Greek

Forgetting Sarah Marshall director Nick Stoller will team up again with Judd Apatow and Universal Pictures for the comedy Get Him to the Greek, with Jonah Hill and Russell Brand attached to star, reports Variety.

The movie centers on a fresh-out-of-college insurance adjuster (Hill, pictured) who is hired to accompany an out-of-control rock star (Brand) from London to a gig at L.A.'s Greek Theater.

Hill and Brand enjoy supporting roles in Forgetting Sarah Marshall; Stoller made his feature directing debut with the flick.

On the Set of Get Smart

The good people at ComingSoon.net went on the set of Get Smart recently.

They spoke to stars Steve Carell and Dwayne Johnson. Check out the full article now, and read below to get these actors' takes on the project...

Carell talked about the honor of being offered such an iconic role:

"When Warner Bros. initially called me in, I thought I was coming in to audition. I heard that Will (Ferrell) had been attached. For some reason or another, he was no longer attached and that they were looking for somebody else," he said.

Get Smart

"They just came out and said, 'We'd like you to play Maxwell Smart.' And it was one of those moments I could not believe, it was one of those quintessential life career moments that was like, 'What the hell is happening? How did this come to pass?' So I've been pinching myself ever since then. It's great and it's been ever since then," Carell added.

Both he and Johnson, the former WWE star known as The Rock, were long time fans of the original series.

"I was a big fan, absolutely," Johnson said. "I like any type of comedy that is physical, self-deprecating comedy. I love that because I think, if you are really trying to be cool, then it's hard to be funny, like really funny.

The way Don Adams played that, very self-deprecating, giving himself up for the joke, I love that. And the gadgets were pretty cool too, which you see in this movie, updated ones, too."

Happy Birthday, Kal Penn!

Actor Kal Penn turns 31 years old today.

While known pretty much for just one role - that of Kumar Patel - Penn has actually demonstrated a wide range of talent over the past few years.

He's guest starred on 24 and is currently a series regular on House.

In the end, though, Kal will always be Kumar to movie goers. We're guessing he doesn't mind too much. Along those lines, remember: Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay comes out this Friday!

Jackie Chan Dishes on The Forbidden Kingdom

The Forbidden Kingdom is officially a hit. It was number-one at the box office last weekend.

In the wake of its success, star Jackie Chan spoke to Movies Online about the movie. Here are excerpts from that interview:

Q: I know you can be very critical of your own work. So are you pleased with the way this has turned out? Is it as you imagined it?
Jackie Chan: I don't know. Every time I make an American film I just trust the American director and American writer. Myself, I would never make this kind of film. For me, those kinds of films are ridiculous. They don't make sense. (Laughs.) Ha, ha, ha. But an American audience is more interested in this kind of movie.

On a Quest

Q: I'm surprised, because it feels like you with the drunken fist scene and stuff. Which part did you think didn't make sense?
Jackie Chan: No, the whole thing. (Laughs.) Why Drunken Master? Monkey King? All kinds of things, but at the end, it's the children, there is a young boy in New York who, just like the writer, loves Chinese culture. It's a fantasy like a fairy tale. It's OK.

Otherwise, I won't make this movie, because I know that American people like it. American audiences like it. The Asian audiences like it. So, that's why Jet and I agreed to make this movie. Now, I hear so many good things about this movie and everybody talks about it, but I still worry. Just like ‘Rush Hour 1.'

After I finished ‘Rush Hour 1' I said, ‘My career is finished. A second time I try to get in the American market and now I'm finished.' I go back to Asia and that's all. Then ‘Boom!' big hit. This is ridiculous. Why, why, do people like these kinds of things? Then ‘Rush Hour 2,' da da da da da da. So, now, whenever an American writer or director comes and presents a script, nobody is against it, for American market, yeah.

Reel Movie Reviews: Baby Mama

reel-reviews-logo49.jpg Baby Mama should be an interesting test case for audiences.

We already know male comedians such as Steve Carell and Will Ferrell can carry movies, but what about their female counterparts? How will this Tiny Fey and Amy Poehler vehicle fare at the box office? We'll have that question answered next week.

For now, though, let's just see what film critic think of the comedy...

- There are gags and scraps of action that give the movie fits of buoyancy, and these tend to come not so much from the younger, eager performers as from the old hands. -- The New Yorker

- Surrogate motherhood is the comic topic of the day, and this is one funny chick flick that won't rankle male members of the audience. -- Cole Smithey

- A tailor-made girls' night out movie, Baby Mama is a tidily wrapped package the contents of which you can easily guess before opening it. -- Variety

- That the film also features SNL's Amy Poehler makes the proceedings' crushing mediocrity that much more frustrating. -- Slant Magazine
