After nearly a decade, Cher returns to the big screen in a star role. No, we're not counting her cameo in the 2003 disastrous Stuck on You.
Cher will be joining alongside Christina Aguilera in the contemporary musical, Burlesque.
Aguilera will play an ambitious small-town Iowa girl who comes to work in a modern burlesque home on Sunset Boulevard that's run by Tess (Cher), a former dancer struggling to keep the club open.
Cher will sing on screen in the musical. Production begins in November.

SONNY AND CHER TO PART COMPANY
NEW YORK (AP) Sonny and Cher have decided not to continue their CBS television show, and CBS says it doesn't mind.
"I understand they have high hopes of becoming major recording artists again," said CBS-TV President Robert Wussler on Thursday.
He added that CBS was agreeable to ending the show because of its "circulation performance."
The two performers were husband and wife when they first began a comedy-variety hour on CBS. But when their marriage broke-up, so did the team. Cher continued on CBS and Sonny had a short-lived run on ABC. Then they were reunited - as performers, not spouses,-- on CBS.
CHER SIGNS WITH ABC
October 15 1977
Cher, one of the country's most exciting and dynamic entertainers, has signed an
exclusive agreement with ABC-TV, it was announced recently by Fred Silverman.
President, ABC Entertainment.
The agreement calls for Cher to star in a major hour long special scheduled for
telecast on ABC in February, 1978, and to star in a world television film premiere
planned to air on the network later that year.
"Cher is a magic name in American entertainment," said Mr. Silverman, "and her
talents as both a singer and commediane have established her as one of this nation's
superstar performers. We are delighted that Cher has joined our growing roster of
outstanding personalities."
Cher has been in the forefront of the entertainment field ever since her hit recording
of "Baby Don't Go" in 1965. A succession of other hit recordings followed; including
"Dark Lady, "Half Breed," "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves," "Foxy Lady" "With Love, Cher." Her
most recent album release is "Cherished"
A multi-tatented performer, Cher exhibited a brilliant flair for wry, offbeat comedy when she appeared
with Sonny Bono and starred in her own television series on CBS. She was also featured in the motion
pictures, "Good Times" and "Chastity."
Both her special and film for ABC will be produced by Apis Productions
