Guy Ritchie - the writer/director behind RocknRolla - recently spoke to USA Today about his impending Sherlock Holmes movie, which will star Robert Downey Jr.
The film will be based on Lionel Wigram's comic book, as the new Holmes is expected to be more adventuresome than ever, taking advantage of his skills as a boxer and swordsman. We weren't even aware he possessed those skills.
"It will be a very big production, visceral and intellectual," Ritchie told the newspaper. "His brilliance will percolate into the action."
The movie, scheduled for release in 2010, will be set in the olden days, Ritchie said. However, the emphasis will be as much on Holmes' physical prowess as it is on his keen powers of deduction.
"His intellect was as much of a curse as it was a blessing," the director added. "He was a deeply layered character."
The effects of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince being shelved until July 2009 are still being felt.
While Twilight jumped on the chance to move up a month and take over Potter's release date of November 21, the next James Bond movie has gone in the opposite direction.
Originally scheduled to open on November 7 - in order to give 007 and company plenty of time to haul in the box office before Potter fever takes over - Quantum of Solace will now be released a week later.
"We believe November 14 is a great date that allows us to play straight through Thanksgiving and right into Christmas," Sony executive Jeff Blake said of the date, a week before Thanksgiving, that Bond films typically open on. "We believe this decision will give the public a wider opportunity to see the film over the holiday."
This poster is still valid: Quantum of Solace will be out in November.
They're the two biggest comedies of the summer. One was focused on pot smoking, the other on a pretend war.

After opening the floodgates to directors with Kevin Smith, Reel Movie Stars is proud to present one of the hottest directors of this decade, Christopher Nolan.
Nolan was a relatively unknown director except to his fans with the critically acclaimed Memento in 2000 and his remake of Insomnia in 2002.
Nolan truly became a household name when he helped reboot the Batman franchise with his 2005 blockbuster, Batman Begins starring Christian Bale. Since then Nolan has been unstoppable with The Illusionist and The Dark Knight.
But, of course, to you movie buffs, this Nolan info is not new to you. But how about some Nolan facts you may not know:
Now for some pics of this 5'11 director.
With Anna Faris in the lead role, supported by Rumer Willis and Katharine McPhee, The House Bunny opens in theaters around the country tomorrow.
As you might expect, a movie centered around an exiled Playboy centerfold might result in a few hilarious House Bunny quotes. We'll post more of those as they come in.

Like many authors that have seen their books adapted for the big screen Twilight author Stephenie was worried that her words and characters wouldn't resonate well in a movie.
"I lost a few nights of sleep over it," Meyer told ReelzChannel. "More adaptations than not turn out badly. There are a few that are amazing, but most of the time it's not a good thing. But then on the other side, I saw the book very visually when I was writing it and to see one scene of it on the big screen, that was alluring. I didn't care about anyone else going to see it, that was about me alone in the theater getting to see it and having it be real. That's what swayed me."

Stephenie Meyer is the brains behind Twilight.
The writer continued:
"As an author, you can't try to control that kind of project. First of all, as an author, they won't let you. Second, it's a different medium and I don't know how to work in that medium. I was very much [of the opinion that] Summit knows what they are doing and when they had questions for me, I was ready to answer them and I really loved seeing what was going on.
I have not seen the whole thing yet, but from the script and from the days that I was on set, the goal was to make this as close to the book as possible given the time constraints of a film."
James McAvoy and Emily Blunt are in negotiations to portray the title roles of Gnomeo and Juliet, a CGI-animated Shakespeare adaptation from Miramax and Elton John's Rocket Pictures.
The movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter, will feature several classic songs by the iconic singer.

In the loose and edgy adaptation of Shakespeare's rather well-known play, McAvoy (Atonement) and Blunt (The Devil Wears Prada) will play lovers from rival gardens.
John, who is producing alongside his offscreen partner David Furnish, Baker Bloodworth and Steve Hamilton Shaw, is rumored to be pursuing big-name talent to voice supporting roles.
Give Death Race credit for one thing: it's title says it all. There's no mistaking what you're in for when you buy a ticket to this Jason Statham movie.
According to an assortment of movie critics, though, that's where the good news concerning this film ends. Check out their negative views on it now...

- A serviceable, forgettable genre film marked by leaden performances, even more leaden dialogue, a few sterlingly gruesome images, and a supremely campy performance from Joan Allen... -- Slant Magazine
