Comic Book Experts Weigh in on Possible Batman Villains
Want more speculation on who the next Batman villain might be in the inevitable follow-up to The Dark Knight?
A trio of comic book experts have weighed in with their opinions. To wit:
David Goyer (Batman Begins co-writer): "There's no reason why we necessarily have to use the same three or four that are still around. I mean, Batman's got a wide variety, [a] rogues' gallery. Certainly we used two in the first movie that hadn't been in the films before."
Dan DiDio (DC Comics Executive Editor): "Characters like Catwoman, Riddler, and Hugo Strange make sense, because they're counterpoints to Batman's psychosis and fears. The Joker creates chaos. Two-Face shows the duality of the Batman-Bruce Wayne relationship, and how Batman's found peace with that duality. Batman searches for answers, and the Riddler has questions. Batman is driven, and Catwoman is sexual. They play well against each other and challenge aspects of what makes a hero."
Steve Niles (30 Days of Night creator): "I'd like to see Catwoman over the Penguin. Not as a prostitute, and not as the Tim Burton version — what, cats sniffed her back to life? — but perhaps the Adam Hughes design, with the goggles. That's very realistic. I can imagine her in street clothes that are designed just right. I also like the idea of them creating villains just for the movies."
Whoever is the next Batman villain, he or she will have a difficult role to follow.

I don't know who reads this, but here are my best ideas for interesting villians for the follow-up. I think Scarface with the Ventriloquist would be interesting because he is a mix of the psychos like Joker and the mob bosses like Maroni and Falcone. Black Mask is also interesting as a mob leader and as a psycho cult leader. Mad Hatter would be interesting on screen. Riddler would be great if done right, because we could then see Batman's detective side that has yet to truly show up on screen. Talia could show up as the new leader of the league of assasins. Unfortunately, in this hyper real world Nolan has created, the more far out characters like Mr. Freeze and Clayface would not work well; save for Clayface I who was just a master of disguise and a serial killer. Dr. Stange would also be interesting as a psychological foil for Batman. Story-wise I think the best and worst things for Gotham would be for Batman to somehow be exonerated for the murders Two-Face commited. The best way I see that happening is if Two-Face somehow comes back in the follow-up. Or maybe Riddler figures it out and threatens to expose it, which would cause all of Harvey's mob convictions to be overturned. I would also like to see Officers Bullock and Montoya appear in the next film. Finally, I end with the question, Who all did Two Face kill at the end of the film. Gordon says he killed two officers, but we saw that the female officer had the coin land on clean side and was allowed to live?

you know,it's about time to bring out the real villians for batman. why wait to do it, by the 7th installment we should have had them all. and somewhere in there do justice league. the movie was so good, turn them all into movies. dont bring that bat boy crap back at all no no no. the more villians the better, they still got scarecrow too, plus two face could come back, cant wait til the next one.
