The Dark Knight Sets More Box Office Records

Batman PhotoThe Dark Knight set records with the biggest opening weekend last week with $153.3 million last weekend.

The Dark Knight doesn't look to be slowing down with the biggest second opening weekend at $75.6 million beating out previous record holder, Shrek 2.  Already the 23 top grossing movie of all time, The Dark Knight has earned a record fast $314.2 million in just 10 days.  Previous record holder was Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest in 14 days.

How did other movies fare in the box office last weekend?

  • Step Brothers - $30 million
  • Mamma Mia! - $17.9 million
  • X-Files: I Want to Believe - $10.2 million
  • Journey to the Center of the Earth - $9.4 million

Does The Dark Knight have what it takes to beat out the current biggest domestic earner of all time, Titantic?  James Cameron should be nervous.

Patrick Wilson is Nite Owl in Watchmen

Here's another character preview for the upcoming Watchmen movie:

Patrick Wilson (Hard Candy, Little Children) takes on the role of Nite Owl in the big screen adaption of this comic book series. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor talked about the man formerly known as Dan Dreiberg.

Patrick Wilson is Nite Owl and Malin Akerman (in the background) is Silk Spectre in Watchmen.

As an outlawed super hero, Nite Owl mopes around in a stupor. Wilson described the masked avenger to the aforementioned magazine with the following quote:

"He's a big man who's gotten soft."

Ray Stevenson is Frank Castle in Punisher: War Zone

Ray Stevenson takes over for Thomas Jane in the role of Frank Castle for Punisher: War Zone.

The movie comes out on December 5, but here's your first look at Stevenson as the title character:

Frank Castle

Star, Director Dish on The Spirit

Legendar comic writer Frank Miller (300) makes his solo debut with an adaptation of Will Eisner's 1940s comic strip The Spirit.

The movie is about a police officer who, after getting shot and killed, comes back to life... with a major agenda. '

'The Spirit is out for justice,'' said star Gabriel Macht who plays the title character. ''He's trying to clean up the city and find his killers.''

Scarlett Johansson, The Spirit

At first, Miller turned The Spirit down.

''But three and a half seconds later I said, 'Hold on, nobody else gets to touch it,''' he said. ''It's a comic strip that's had a tremendous effect on my own work.''

Opening This Weeekend: Step Brothers, The X-Files Movie, Brideshead Revisited

Do any of the movies opening this weekend have the power to take down The Dark Knight? We doubt it, as viewers have responded positively in many polls asking if they'd see the latest Batman film a second time.

Still, here's a closer look at the three flicks daring to open around the same time as the Caped Crusader...

The Dark Knight Scene Spoof

Yesterday, we posted a controversial article that highlighted why we disliked The Dark Knight.

One point we forgot to make, though? We couldn't understand anything Batman said!

Looks like we weren't alone, either, as this clip spoofs the difficultly Christian Bale appeared to have enunciating in the role:

Shhhh: Snake Eyes to Be Silent in G.I. Joe Movie

As fans of G.I. Joe are keenly aware of, Snake-Eyes is a black-clad warrior. The man is a silent, lethal assassin - with an emphasis on the silence.

But that almost wasn't the case in the upcoming movie based on the cartoon, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura admitted to MTV.

“We actually had Snake-Eyes utter one sentence at the very end of the movie,” di Bonaventura said “We thought [it] was very clever… [writer Larry Hama] didn’t think it was clever at all.”

Snake Eyes

Having penned all 155 issues of the original Marvel series, Hama was drafted by filmmakers to act as consultant to the project.

“The good news for us was we gave him the script and we held our breaths,” said di Bonaventura. “Because that was the moment where if he rejected the whole thing I’m not sure what we would have done. And what was great was he had really small notes, one or two very passionately held.

And what Larry said was no matter what you guys think, you can’t have Snake-Eyes utter a word.”

Actor Ray Park will be taking on the role of Snake-Eyes in G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra, which is set for an August 7, 2009 release.
