Selma Blair: Cool, Hot in Hellboy

Selma Blair was so hot on the set of Hellyboy II, she was cool.

The actress, who plays Liz Sherman in the sequel, couldn't help but taunt her fellow cast members about her simple wardrobe. Especially considering the sweat-inducing make-up and costume of the movie's title character.

"I (was) very naughty in that department. On the hottest days, when the other actors (couldn't) breathe in their makeup, I breeze in and say how sweaty I feel in my cotton tank top," Blair joked recently. "It's just as well: Ron Perlman (Hellboy) is my next-door neighbor in real life and knows my sense of humor."

Selma Blair doesn't wear a lot in Hellboy II: The Golden Army, but she does cause a lot of problems for evil doers.

Will Ferrell Explains Land of the Lost

At a recent press day for his upcoming comedy Step Brothers, ReelzChannel asked Will Ferrell for a few details about his highly anticipated adaptation of Land of the Lost.

"I think it's a great blend of paying homage to the show mixed with what I think could be a different genre, this kind of adventure comedy where we really use the adventure to set up the comedy and we're able to comment on these situations that you would love to see characters comment on," Ferrell said.

Land of the Lost will be released in July of 2009.

Reel Movie Reviews: Mamma Mia!

Mamma Mia! is coming to the big screen on July 18.

Meryl Streep leads the cast of this remake of the Broadway musical. Does that make it a must-see? Let's find out what various critics think of the film...

- The most fun to be had at the movies this or any other recent summer... -- The Hollywood Reporter

- Helmer Lloyd's lack of vision and technical skills and the use of a conventional format result in an old-fashioned, mildly enjoyable musical that services but doesn't enhance the iconic Abba songs (and yes, Meryl Streep can sing)... -- Emanuel Levy

- Incredibly, Mamma Mia! looks set for a whole new lease on life... -- Boxoffice Magazine

- This joyous frolic propelled and inspired by the timeless music of ABBA is a bit like Grease for the older set, with Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan playing the leading roles... -- Urban Cinefile

Seth Rogen Muses on Pineapple Express Sequel

During a recent interview, Seth Rogen sounded open to the possibility of a Pineapple Express sequel (even though, of course, the film itself is yet to come out).

"They've been wanting us to do a sequel to Superbad for so long â€" but we've held off. We eventually said no. But this one, it's not a precious coming-of-age story like Superbad, it's a weed action-movie and if it did well, and they gave us like $50 million dollars (as opposed to the $26 million we got for this one) we could benefit from that."

Pineapple Express opens on August 8. We'll wait to see how funny that movie is before we weigh in on the concept of a sequel.

Zack and Miri Make a Porno: Destined for NC-17 Rating?

At a press conference for his latest comedy, Pineapple Express, Seth Rogen said his next film might be saddled with the dreaded NC-17 rating.

"I would say it's pretty dirty language-wise," said Rogen of Zack and Miri Make a Porno. "It does not seem that dirty to me. To me, it literally does not even register in my brain anymore."

Here's an example of what you can expect from the movie:

In the movie, two friends find their friendship tested when they decide to make an adult movie. Rogen thinks the sexual suggestions in the flick may freak out the ratings board, even though it appears to be fine with the violence of films such as Hostel.

"I don't know why. To me, it's a mystery that you can show these horrific things, but not some sexual stuff which everyone does," Rogen said.

Special Effects Guru Takes Journey to the Center of the Earth

Eric Brevig is a special effects expert behind such summer blockbusters as Men in Black and The Day After Tomorrow.

Journey to the Center of the Earth Pic

Now, Brevig is working on Journey to the Center of the Earth, a modern day update of the Jules Verne classic from the 19th Century - in 3D! He recently spoke to ComingSoon.net about the project:

ComingSoon.net: You've worked with 3D before, but when you were first approached to do this movie using this new technology, what was the learning curve like?
Eric Brevig: The 3D part of it was the same. I had a choice of shooting the movie on film or HD digital because if you capture on film, you can transfer to HD and then you can continue the process, in post the same way we did. I wanted to learn more about HD photography just to make sure that there wasn't anything too unpleasant that I was getting myself into if I decided to go that route.

That's definitely the future of cinematography, and I wanted this to be like a cutting edge, never-before-done approach to filmmaking, but I had to make sure the image would be halfway decent when I was done. I talked to a lot of people who worked in HD including Fred Meyers, the person who is my video engineer… he has a much better sounding title ("HD engineer")…

but anyway, he was the person in charge of the image capture on "Star Wars: Episode III," so he definitely was the top person in the world to talk to. He walked me through it: "This is how to record imagery that looks very good in HD, it looks as good as film if you follow these restrictions" and so forth. There's so many benefits to working in digital capture in that you can see your playback immediately and you can watch on the monitor in full resolution.

You can go into a 3D tent. What we did is we had a full-size screen because I needed to see the imagery full size because our eyes don't scale down.

Hancock is a Box Office Hero

No shocker here: despite mild reviews, Will Smith's Hancock earned over $107 million in its first five days in theaters.

The super hero flick has been attacked by critics for veering away from its fun-loving, original concept in the movie's second half. Nevertheless, viewers made Hancock the third-biggest Fourth of July opener of all-time after Transformers and Spider-Man 2.

Out of the Rubble

Here's a look at the weekend's top five:

  1. Hancock, $66 million
  2. WALL-E, $33.4 million
  3. Wanted, $20.6 million
  4. Get Smart, $11.1 million
  5. Kung Fu Panda, $7.5 million
