British actor Luke Goss makes his mark in America with his portrayal of Prince Nuada in Hellboy II: The Golden Army. He recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the role:
What can you tell us about Hellboy II?
The first film I thought was kind of cute. But this one is way, way more magnificent. The intensity is tenfold. The stories that run through this film are much more complex than the first. My character, Nuada, is technically the bad guy. But his whole premise is to do with nobility and the rights of his people. I would defy anybody to not understand exactly why he's doing what he's doing.
And that's the cool thing. Del Toro doesn't want to keep it that simple. The same as with the ending — I won't say anything, but there's nothing stereotypical about it.
Was it a tough shoot?
I don't think I'll ever do a film that's harder than this. I filmed a movie called Bone Dry, a thriller in the Mojave desert in one of the hottest recorded summers, for five weeks. And it was a walk in the park compared to Hellboy. It was six-day weeks for nine months. I had 22-hour days sometimes. I remember getting home at 12:45 at night and then getting my wake-up call at 2:50 the same morning and just going to work again.
Literally, Ron, Selma, Doug, and myself, we were literally sometimes in our chairs with our heads down — like, gone, out — and the assistant directors would wake you up and you just strike a pose, like, whose arse are you going to kick now? You don't know where you are.
Hellboy II: The Golden Army opens this weekend.
TV Guide recently sat down with The X-Files creator Chris Carter to discuss The X-Files: I Want to Believe.
In the interview, Carter discussed fan interest in the franchise, as well as the future of it. Here are excerpts:
TVGuide.com: Fans have really been waiting for this movie, X-Files: I Want to Believe (in theaters July 25). Are you surprised that they’re still interested?
Chris Carter: Yes. I think the reason we made the movie was because we felt that enthusiasm from the fan base. That being said, I think for this movie to be as successful as Fox would like, we needed to make it a movie that would appeal beyond our fan base, to a broader base, and even to a group of people who didn't watch The X-Files before.
I would talk with college juniors, sophomores, freshmen — they were too young to see the show when it was on the air. It started 15 years ago. So, yeah, we thought about them when we came up with the story.
TVGuide.com: Could you imagine doing a new X-Files movie every couple of years or so?
Carter: That seems like a natural to me, but this movie has to be successful for there to be another one. I think every time you go out you need to get a home run. [Laughs] I don't think a double here will do it.
The X-Files: I Want to Believe comes out on July 25.
Robert Downey Jr. is in final talks to star as Sherlock Holmes in a film to be directed by Mr. Madonna himself, Guy Ritchie.
The Warner Bros. movie, due to start shooting this fall, will depict Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's hero in a less stuffy vein than in his previous incarnations.
We'd imagine, though, that this flick will be far more intense than the Columbia Pictures recently-announced version, which will be produced by Judd Apatow and star Sacha Baron Cohen as the super sleuth, along with Will Ferrell as his sidekick, Dr. Watson.
From Tony Stark to Sherlock Holmes, it's safe to say Robert Downey Jr. is back.
Regardless of reviews, we'd be giddy to see The Dark Knight.
Considering the incomparable reviews the film, and Heath Ledger in particular, is enjoying, however, our enthusiasm for the Batman follow-up couldn't be higher. Here's a look at what various critics are saying:
- Daring and uncompromisingly different from previous incarnations of Batman, Nolan hasn't redefined the superhero genre as much as created an unforgettable piece of crime fiction within the context of that realm... -- ComingSoon.net
- A dark, ambitious, mature and gritty crime saga the likes of which Michael Mann or Martin Scorsese would be proud to call their own... -- Dark Horizons
- An ambitious, full-bodied crime epic of gratifying scope and moral complexity, this is seriously brainy pop entertainment that satisfies every expectation raised by its hit predecessor and then some... -- Variety
- The haunting and visionary Dark Knight soars on the wings of untamed imagination... -- Rolling Stone
in a recent interview with OK Magazine, Sigourney Weaver said she was interested in reprising her role as Ripley in the Aliens franchise, assuming the right people were involved.
“I would definitely do another if I had a director like Ridley Scott and we had a good idea. Ridley is enthusiastic about it,” Weaver said.
Scott is yet to show any interest in the project. He next directs Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe in Body of Lies, one of the films whose trailer is set to debut prior to The Dark Knight on July 18.

Would you go see Sigourney Weaver in another Aliens movie?
A new trailer for Tropic Thunder has been released online. It's a great mockumentary called "Rain of Madness" that explores what happened during the shooting of the movie within the movie...
Look for attendance in middle schools across the country to mysteriously drop when High School Musical 3 premieres on October 24.
In the meantime, anxious fans of the Disney franchise will be treated to that movie's trailer, beginning this Sunday night, July 13.

Not surprisingly, Sacha Baron Cohen's Bruno is creating havoc around the country.
The Associated Press reports that the gay character of Bruno caused a major ruckus in Arkansas last month at a pair of cage fighting matches. At a June 6 match in Texarkana dubbed "Blue Collar Brawlin'," a "wrestler" named "Straight Dave" challenged a planted audience member to a fight.
Of course, instead of a brawl, this led to a staged homoerotic scene where the two men, stripped to their underwear, grappled, groped and eventually kissed each other as the audience exploded into a bottle-throwing tizzy.
The convention center had to be cleared and the actors involved reportedly fled through a tunnel.
The untitled Bruno movie - whose full title is rumored to be Brüno: Delicious Journeys Through America for the Purpose of Making Heterosexual Males Visibly Uncomfortable in the Presence of a Gay Foreigner in a Mesh T-Shirt - is scheduled for a 2009 release.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Quentin Tarantino is once more going into battle with the Weinstein Co. as he prepares his new screenplay Inglorious Bastards for an October shoot.
The Kill Bill writer-director is reteaming with Harvey and Bob Weinstein for his long-planned World War II action tale about a "Dirty Dozen"-like group of soldiers behind enemy lines.
Because the production will film in Europe and is looking toward an accelerated production schedule so that it can be finished in time to submit to May's Festival de Cannes, the Weinsteins are looking to join forces with a major studio to come aboard to co-finance in exchange for foreign rights.
We'll have more information on this movie as it breaks, including casting news. Brad Pitt's name has surfaced as a possible star.
