Happy Birthday, Paul Giamatti!

One of the more underrated actors of our generation turns 41 today. Happy birthday, Paul Giamatti!

The versatile star was nominated for an Oscar for his performance in Cinderella Man, though we think he should have been nominated and crowned Best Actor for his role in Sideways.

Here's a look at a few of Giamatti's more recent roles:

  • Fred Claus: Santa Claus
  • Cinderella Man: Joe Gould
  • Sideways: Miles

Lyndsy Fonseca Remembers the Daze

Lyndsy Fonseca might be best known for her television work - which include Desperate Housewives and How I Met Your Mother - but she's building a solid movie resume, beginning with Remember the Daze.

The young actress recently spoke to MovieWeb about the project:

What first attracted you to this project and your character?

I guess I could relate to her in many ways. I remember when I was that age, high school age, and being really insecure with yourself, wanting to be loved and wanting to fit in and wanting to find out who you are, maybe going about things the wrong way. I also found somewhat of a strength in her, that she wanted to come out with being gay, and I thought that was very courageous of her.

This movie kind of feels like this generation's Dazed and Confused or American Graffiti. Did you get that kind of a feel when you first read this script?
Yeah! Yeah, aboslutely. You know what's funny about this movie is what it is and what the script was, was totally different. We got actors like Chris Marquette and Wesley (Jonathan) and people who were so involved they just decided to go off on tangents and they created the funniest characters.

A lot of what the movie is, was just created on film. It has nothing to do with the script. The script was great to begin with, but once (writer-director) Jess (Manafort) cast these characters, they really came to life.

Introducing: Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen

Following all the recent news items regarding Transformers 2, here's a rather key piece of information:

The sequel's title!

Reportedly, the film will be called Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen.

What do you think of this movie title?

Iron Man 2: Sort of Coming Along!

Even though Jon Favreau won't officially admit that he's directing Iron Man 2 - already scheduled for an April 30, 2010 release - the film maker is talking openly about the project.

ComingSoon.net recently asked Favreau about committing to such a long-term project. Here's his reply:

Hopefully we'll figure out how to get Iron Man 2 going and I'll be involved with that. You have got to out-do what you did before. So, if the last one took two years, we would need at least that to do what we are talking about, or at least thinking about. Nobody knew about Iron Man, and that was a disadvantage in some ways, but nobody expected anything.

I think people were pleased based on the fact that they had no preconceptions about the project. Now, we have a movie that people seem to like and you can't give them less. You have to give them more.

There are challenges that come with that as well as the benefit of people already understanding who he is and the character. We told the origin story so where do you go from here? There are plenty of story lines to explore from the 40 years of history from that character.

Sam Raimi Speaks on Spider-Man 4, Franchise Future

Director Sam Raimi recently discussed the making of Spider-Man 4 and future franchise sequels.

"James Vanderbilt is writing the script and I'm excited to read it. I think it's going to be done in a few months," Raimi said. "I'm hoping it's as great as our discussions were about it and I'm hoping it feels right for me because I love Spider-Man. I'm hoping I'm well rested enough to embrace it and I'm hoping Sony wants me to do it. If all of those things come together, I would love to do it. There are a lot of unknowns about the future."

As re-casting key actors, if needed? (Rumors have been circulating that Tobey Maguire could be replaced.)

"I'd hate to re-cast anybody in the future, I can't imagine that," Raimi said.

Dwayne Johnson Dishes on Get Smart

Dwayne Johnson has officially moved on from his life as The Rock.

The former WWE star now goes by his real name, and it's certainly been working out well on the big screen for him. He'll star alongside Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway in Get Smart, hitting theaters on June 20.

Johnson recently spoke to MoviesOnline about his role as Agent 23.

MoviesOnline: For Get Smart, you're the successful secret agent. To get into your mindset for this, did you think of James Bond?
Dwayne Johnson: A little bit. I thought of James Bond. I also thought, well, here's a guy, a pretty successful guy at what he does and yet he has a dark side. For me, my process for all my movies is to just get really close with the director and just make sure we're on the same page, we share the same vision for the movie, the same tone. And you know, it was a character I was excited to play. And physically, too.

Agent 23

When I first started thinking about the character, how all our characters came together, the thought of Steve Carell and myself side by side is just funny, and it made me laugh from the get go. And then it was funny on the page and I thought well, we had a pretty good shot of making a good movie. Or a funny movie.

MoviesOnline: What was it like kissing Steve Carell?
Dwayne Johnson: It was like, you ever have warm apple pie with cold ice cream too, and you find that balance where you're oh, uhhh [laughter]. Um. Hey, you know, it was great, it was great. Not too many men can say that, have a nice big lip lock with Steve Carell. It was great. The length I go, the committed actor. Jack Gyllenhaal did it, Will Smith did it. I thought it was my turn to kiss a man.

A Teaser Poster for W

We've uncovered a hilarious - and depressing - teaser poster for Oliver Stone's upcoming George W. Bush biopic, W.

Street Fighter Role of Vega is Taboo

As a member of the Black Eyed Peas, Taboo often took a backseat to Fergie.

But in his role in Street Fighter: Legend of Chun-Li, the rapper will be taking center stage... as a killer.

"I'm the hit man," Taboo of his character, Vega, a boss in the original games. "Bison, who is the mob boss, hires me to kill Chun-Li."

Directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak, this Street Fighter follow-up stars Kristin Kreuk as lightning-kicking Chun-Li and Neal McDonough as M. Bison. Due in February 2009, the film also casts Chris Klein and Michael Clarke Duncan in the iconic roles of Nash and Balrog, respectively.

"Vega is a character that wore a mask and a claw in the video game, and he has a humongous cult following," Taboo told MTV. "I'm playing him a little edgier. In the video game, he's like a matador from Spain. He has tights on, and he's kind of flamboyant and androgynous.

Not in this movie. Now, he's hard-core and he's bringing it. I feel like I've maximized my character, and I gave a great performance."

Casting Calls: Ryan Gosling, Lake Bell and More

A handful of casting news from the movie world...

  • Ryan Gosling will star in The Dallas Buyers Club. The film will be directed by Craig Gillespie, who directed Gosling in last year's Lars and the Real Girl.
  • Lake Bell has joined the cast of A Good Old Fashioned Orgy. Yes, you read that title correctly. The actress joins a cast comprised of Leslie Bibb, Michelle Borth, Will Forte, Lindsay Sloane and Jason Sudeikis. She'll play a Columbia University-educated woman who doles out unwanted advice to her friends.
  • According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jesse Bradford has been cast in Oliver Stone's biopic, W. He'll portray Thatcher, the president of George W. Bush's fraternity at Yale.

The Green Hornet Casting News, Notes

Not only do we know Seth Rogan is confirmed to star as The Green Hornet, we now know the release date for this comic book movie: June 25, 2010.

Rogan said as much in a recent interview, while adding that Stephen Chow hasn't signed on for the role of Kato, but those behind the project would"love to have him" as that character.

"We weren't even sure going in we could be more of a Jet Li type guy who maybe isn't the funniest guy in the world, but he's physically very impressive, or whether it would be more of a Stephen Chow type guy who can do martial arts, but clearly has a sense of humor," the Knocked Up star said.

"In the version that we've made it seems like a Stephen Chow type guy would be more suitable for the role. Again, until they officially greenlight it, it's hard to make any of those decisions."

Rogen said the movie will focus on the humorous nature of the relationship between Kato and the title character.

"It's kind of a funny dynamic and a funny relationship and no movies really did that except Batman & Robin. No movies did that well," he said, taking a deserved poke at that George Clooney mess of a film.
