Reel Movie Reviews: Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay

reel-reviews-logo48.jpg Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay comes out on April 25.

Considering the DVD success of Harold and Kumer's first adventure (something about trying to find a fast food joint), we can pretty much pencil in the follow-up at the top of next weekend's box office. Maybe even the movie of the year.

But what do critics make of it? We them for a movie review or two...

- A prison sex slave rebellion having to do with an organ sandwich, don't ask, and a detour over to Bush's secret sex den, make this ballsy doper duo and their Blue State versus Red State rant hard to resist. -- NewsBlaze

- In its own wacky way, Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay is one of the ballsiest comedies to come out of Hollywood in a long time. No kidding. -- Variety

In Guantanamo Bay

- The HIGHly-anticipated sequel to 2004's Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle comes just how you'd expect it: raunchy, wild, disgusting and completely absurd. -- Cinematical

- Like most comedy sequels, it is not as funny as its predecessor -- but, like most comedy sequels, that won't matter too much if you get stoned before you watch it. -- Eric D. Snider

Milo Ventimiglia Talks About Pathology

Pathology is about a group of medical students who create a scheme to see who can commit the perfect crime, one that even a fellow pathologist couldn't unravel. Get the title now?

The film stars Heroes hunk Milo Ventimiglia, who recently spoke to Movie Web about the project:

So what was it about this script that made you want to do Pathology?
Milo Ventimiglia: I liked the character. I liked Ted Gray. I don't know, I saw a nice, rounded arc and to try and find those beats as an actor, you're definitely doing unlikable things but you're the guy that has to keep everybody interested, you know? He's kind of a bit of an antihero. It's a challenge to make him likable doing all these terrible, terrible things.

From what I understand there's no real human quality about any of the characters by the end of this film?

Milo Ventimiglia: The one thing I really did like about my character in particular and how he fit into the whole film, is how you've got to show these two sides. You've got this world, these pathologists that are, day in and day out, taking apart bodies, coming up with theories about how they died and how to better serve the community.

At the same time these people have lives outside and families and my character in particular, he has a fiance and things are going well for him, so you've got to show that nice warm compassionate side at the same time you've got to show the steely, icy cool of a doctor. Not only that, but a doctor who gets a bit of a God complex and starts killing people for sport.

Happy Birthday, Maria Bello!

We'd like to wish Maria Bello a very happy 41st birthday today.

A gorgeous, underrated actress Bello has appeared in a number of films. The fact that she is quite open to getting naked on screen has only raised the appeal of this actress, who pretty much got her start on ER in the role of Dr. Anna Del Amico.

Here is her recent movie resume:

The actress joins Tobin Bell, Scott Patterson, Costas Mandylor and Julie Benz in the fifth installment of this horror franchise, which will be directed by the series' former production designer David Hackl.

Saw V is filming now and is schedule to hit the big screen on October 24, 2008.

Brett Ratner to Direct Eddie Murphy in The Incredible Shrinking Man

Brett Ratner is in negotiations to direct a remake of The Incredible Shrinking Man. Brian Grazer is producing the project, which has Eddie Murphy attached to star, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

An updated version of the best-selling novel and 1957 sci-fi classic starring Grant Williams, The Incredible Shrinking Man will be taking the comedic approach to the fantastical material. It's set to tell the story of a famous Las Vegas magician (named Scott Carey) who is put under a spell that causes him to shrink.

He must find a way to reverse the spell before he gets so small that he disappears. We'll ignore the obvious joke here that many movie goers probably wouldn't mind of Murphy - the man who dared to make Norbit - himself disappeared from the big screen.
