Remember the end of Batman Begins? The fantastic movie ended with a warning from Lt. Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) to Batman (Christian Bale) about "escalation" in crime and villainy now that there's a man in a batsuit prowling Gotham City.
Well, in a recent interview with The New York Times, Bale confirmed that "this escalation has now meant that he feels more of a duty to continue," and that the idea of Batman flying around the city has actually attracted more criminals to Gotham.
There's where The Dark Knight picks up.
Bale added: "And now you have not just a young man in pain attempting to find some kind of an answer, you have somebody who actually has power, who is burdened by that power, and is having to recognize the difference between attaining that power and holding on to it."
Meanwhile, the newspaper confirms that Ledger had completed work on the film before he died in January, and that Nolan feels a "massive sense of responsibility" to do justice to Ledger's final lead performance.
The director calls Ledger's portrayal of the Joker "stunning" and "iconic," as well as "terrifying" and "amazing."
The Dark Knight opens on July 18.

The movie may not come out until May 2, but you can browse through our complete collection of Iron Man Quotes right now. Check out the following sample:
Tony Stark: Is it better to be feared or respected? And I'd say is it too much to ask for both?
Jim Rhodes: You're not a soldier.
Tony Stark: Damn right I'm not. I'm an army.
Soldier: Is it cool if I get a picture with you?
Tony Stark: Yes. Yes it's very cool. I don't wanna see this on your myspace page. No gang signs please. No, throw it up, I'm kidding.
Tony Stark: They say the best weapon is one you never have to fire. I prefer the weapon you only need to fire once. That's how dad did it, that's how America does it, and it's worked out pretty well so far.

Do you wanna see a movie version of The Sopranos?
Fans seem torn on the issue, so it's likely they'll be torn on this piece of news, as well:
The manager of Satin Dolls â" aka the Lodi, New Jersey flesh palace that doubled as the Bada Bing! on the HBO series â" told NorthJersey.com that he's put off renovating the club because he got a call from someone working on a script for a The Sopranos feature film.
Asked about the buzz by The New York Daily News, David Chase seemed most skeptical, while an HBO spokesperson told TVGuide.com the movie talk is "categorically not true."

No sooner do we update our Sex and the City Movie home page than the cast spills a few secrets about the hugely-hyped movie.
"Something major happens that fundamentally changes who Carrie is," Sarah Jessica Parker told LOGO's NewNowNext.
Moreover, the film "doesn't pick up right where the series ended," Parker adds. "It's a few years later... it's so packed with stuff."
What about Cynthia Nixon and her character, Miranda Hobbes? According to the actress, she "is still in Brooklyn, is still unhappy about it, and still advancing at her job, in her firm."
Baby Brady?
"Her son is thriving, but her marriage is kind of mmm â" not doing so great," Nixon says. "We are dealing with unfaithfulness, but even more than unfaithfulness, I think we are dealing with the daily grind that can take its toll on a relationship."
Meanwhile Charlotte York Goldenblatt is "struggling to be a good mother," Kristin Davis says. "She has her adopted daughter, and she's an overachiever."
As for which character has the most sex, Kim Cattrall has a one word answer: "Guess!"
Ummm... Stanford?
