Reel Movie Reviews: Mad Money

reel-reviews-logo41.jpg It appears as though Katie Holmes has released herself from Tom Cruise’s clutches long enough to film a new movie.

Indeed, Mad Money opens on January 18. Here are a few reviews of it from various movie critics and fans:

- The story seems awkward and the characters are little more than forced stereotypes.Cinema Blend

- This strained heist comedy about three cash-strapped femmes is watchable enough for a few reels, but lacks the requisite wit and amoral energy to capitalize on its get-rich-quick premise. — Variety

- An Ocean’s Eleven for the female set, Khouri’s multi-generational, multi-racial comedy is in synch with the thought processes of its down-on-their-luck femmes, who contrive ingenious way of ripping off a bank, before running out of steam. Emanuel Levy

Ellen Page Rumored to Star in Whip It

derbygirl01.jpg Whip It is the big screen adaption of Shauna Cross’ book “Derby Girl.”

Drew Barrymore is making her feature directorial debut on the film, which ought to begin filming in March start. The story is based around Bliss Cavendar, a blue haired, indie-rock loving misfit stuck in the tiny town of Bodeen, Texas.

Her pageant-addicted mother expects her to compete for the coveted Miss Blue Bonnet crown, but Bliss would rather feast on roaches than be subjected to such rhinestone tyranny. Bliss’ escape? Take up Roller Derby.

According to a recent interview Cross gave to Film School Rejects, the actress that will play the role of Bliss has a name that rhymes with “Shmellen Shmage.”

Keri Russell is Wonder Woman!

We wish we could report that Keri Russell has been cast as Wonder Woman in the Justice League of America movie, or in a stand-alone film for the classic comic hero.

Instead, we’ll have to settle with the news - courtesy of Michael Ausiello from TV Guide - that the adorable actress is merely voicing the title role Warner Bros’ straight-to-DVD animated Wonder Woman feature.

The flick, which is slated for release in late 2008 or early 2oo9, is part of a new line of DVD feature adaptations by Warner Bros. Animation and DC Comics. The first, Superman: Doomsday, hit stores in September; upcoming releases include Justice League: New Frontier (2/26) and Batman: Gotham Knight.

Do you think Russell would make a solid Wonder Woman in a live-action movie?

John Singleton Dishes on The A-Team Movie

john_singleton_image1.jpg Director John Singleton recently opened up to Collider.com about his plans for The A-Team movie.

Among other interesting tidbits, Singleton said he wants Woody Harrelson to portray Murdock, which we think would be a perfect choice.

Here’s an excerpt from the interview, during which the director discusses his plans for the remake of this classic television show:

A-Team is going. It’s not a comic movie farce like Starsky and Hutch, it’s kind of in the tradition of the 80’s action pictures, the man’s movies like Die Hard, Predator, Commando, or even Lethal Weapon – more so than anything else. The action is very serious, but there is humor. That’s what we are going for.

I don’t know who is in the cast yet, so all this bullshit of who is saying who is this person and who is… nobody is playing Mr. T – the character’s name is B.A. Baracus, he will have a Mohawk and there is a moment in the movie where he actually gets the Mohawk cause he’s going crazy.

And I don’t know who is in the cast yet…but I do know that the only person I want right now is, that I really, really want is Woody Harrelson to play Murdock – the guy who is crazy but he’s kind of real smart, a jack of all trades. That’s the only person I really, really want.
