Sacha Baron Cohen to Star in The Trial of the Chicago 7

Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat) will star in Steven Spielberg’s upcoming drama The Trial of the Chicago 7. In the film, the actor will portray Abbie Hoffman.

Hoffman was a member of the 1960s counterculture that performed a number of pranks in order to protest the Vietnam War. The film is said to be similar in tone to Spielberg’s Munich, making it a major departure for the comedic Cohen.

The story will follow a group of protesters that disrupt the 1968 Democrat party convention with an anti-Vietnam-war carnival that turns nasty.

The Time Traveler’s Wife Movie Stills, Synopsis

The Time Traveler’s Wife is based on the best-selling book by Audrey Niffenegger. The film version will star Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams, both of whom we think are ideal for the roles.

Here’s a summary of the movie, followed by a couple still shots from it:

Chicago librarian Henry DeTamble (Bana) has a genetic disorder that causes him to time travel when stressed. Though he disappears often for long periods of time, he tries to build a relationship with artist Clare Abshire (McAdams).

Ron Livingston plays Gomez, the librarian’s friend and a liberal attorney who works for nonprofit organizations.

Gemma Arterton Speaks on Bond Girl Gig

Gemma Arterton PicIt’s been confirmed that Gemma Arterton has landed the coveted role of Bond Girl in the next James Bond movie.

The British actress - who can currently be seen in St. Trinian’s - recently discussed the part:

“[My agent] said ‘If you do this big film, it will open the doors for all these other brilliant things. But you have to do the big film first.’ It’s like the Keira Knightley thing: everyone ridiculed her for doing the Pirates films, but she’s getting great parts now. She can choose whatever she wants,” Arterton said.

We don’t think Knightly was criticized for those roles, but Gemma continued:

“I think it’s difficult for a young girl like me, because there’s a certain time for young actresses, which is like a really juicy period when all the parts are love interests and young heroines. Of course, there’s always work for men whatever age they are. So I’m really going to go for it. And if it all goes wrong, I’ll go and do panto!”

Photos of Will Smith on the Set of Hancock

As I Am Legend continues to rake in cash at the box office, Will Smith is already hard at work on his next blockbuster. It’s called Hancock, it opens in July and here’s a synopsis of the film:

Smith portrays an alcoholic superhero that falls out of public favor. A publicist (Jason Bateman) helps rehabilitate his image, but the superhero eventually begins an affair with the publicist’s wife (Charlize Theron).

Got all that? Sounds like a winner to us. Here are two shots of Smith as the title character, John Hancock:

Cloverfield to Feature Star Trek Trailer

244jjabrams091906.jpg Fans attending Cloverfield, the mysterious monster movie from the mind of J.J. Abrams (pictured) will be in for a double treat early next year:

The flick will feature a preview for the upcoming Star Trek film.

Writer/director Matt Reeves has already seen it.

“Way back, J.J. was like ‘When Cloverfield comes out, Star Trek will be on it,’” Reeves said of his movie, which will hit theaters on January 8. “I was like ‘That’s a terrific idea; that’s exciting’. So, I’ve known for a long, long, time that was their plan, and I’ve just recently seen bits of the teaser. I think it’s amazing, and it looks pretty incredible.”

As MTV reports, Abrams is a producer on Cloverfield, and one of the main driving forces behind its unorthodox advertising campaign.

Reeves, meanwhile, has been busy at work attaching trailers for his friend’s much-anticipated movie on to the front of his own.

“I think people are going to be very excited,” he teased. “It’s a teaser, you know, it’s a teaser trailer. But still, I was like ‘Wow!’ Just the scope of it, the scale of it, you just look at it and it’s so elegantly done… this is a great way to reboot the franchise, and get people excited about something new.”
